He glances up and pockets his phone again, walking over to the bench. Letting a hand drop on Jay's shoulder, giving it a small squeeze.

Letting his fangs drop.

"Only if you plan to feed on me."

He shakes his head. "I need to head back to my world sooner or later so I've been working on my gear most nights." He's been brooding. A lot. Mostly on family and how he's going to deal with them.

"I want to," Eric murmurs, "But I had better not."

He adjusts himself and fastens his jeans.

"And thank you. I know you would have preferred not to do this. "

Nobody could have doubted that.

Jay nods and pulls his own clothes back on, ignore (or should that be repressing his enjoyment of)the ache between his legs.

He tries several versions of a response before going with "Thank you for understanding."

"I need to go back to Africa this week, tie up loose ends. When I get back, I'll finish your security system if that suits you?"

Eric nods.
"That will probably work," he says.
"I have to go back to Shreveport and take care of some things."

And then, because he realises that they may be out of sync, he says, "Godric died yesterday."

"I'm sorry." It seems like such a hollow phrase, as so much human language is.

[onceaviking]

He shrugs. It's a tiny movement.

Jay lets it drop. Nothing he can say will make it any less painful.

"Let me know if you need anything before next weekend? I plan to source a few things I can't get here in Tangiers before I head for the Ivory Coast." After all, the bar won't sell him the weapons he needs.

"I should be good," Eric says.

"If I don't see you again, don't get killed."

[runningred]

The phrasing makes Jay chuckle. "Thank, I'll do my best."

He nods to the lift. "Good luck with Pam. I'll see you around, hey."

Eric hesitates - perhaps on the verge of saying something about how much she means to him. How she is all he has left. But he doesn't.

He just nods and heads to the elevator.

Jay knows. That's why he made an effort to protect her from harm.

Jay watches him go with a sigh and closes his eyes, giving himself a moment to pull himself together. He locks the RV. Tonight might be a better night to go back to his room.
